Session Location

First of all, I want to thank you for booking a session with J.Hicks Photography!  You will notice right away that I follow my own set of rules.  Let me begin by saying that I am an on-location photographer withOUT a studio.  You probably already know that if you follow this blog:) Also, I specialize in Wedding Photography.  That is my number one priority.  I am honored to shoot your family session or photos of your child.  However, I only shoot a handful of these sessions a year, due to the volume of weddings I shoot.   The first step to booking your session, is to choose a date that works for you and for me.  I shoot basic sessions Tuesdays-Fridays, about an hour or two before sunset.  You can find more information on pricing HERE.  Once we have agreed upon a date, you will need to pay your session fee to secure your appointment.  Next, it’s time to choose a location!  This is the tricky part.  The majority of my clients book their appointment online.  Therefore, the first time I will meet them will be at our session.  I don’t know you, I don’t know what you love, what you hate or your hobbies.  For that reason, I ask every one of my clients to choose their own location.  I know this seems scary, but it’s not!  If your session involves your children only, think of things they like to do.  The worst sessions involve bored children.  If they are entertained, then it shows!  Parks are great, at your home, in a field, a family home.  Things like that.  If the session involves your whole family, choose a simple location.  Where I will be able to hold everyone’s attention.  Bring toys, props, coloring books, anything that you think will make your family happy.  If there is something special you guys do as a family, let me know.  Seniors, please choose around 2 locations and email me your ideas!  I will help you.  YOU are the most important part of your session, not the location.  Don’t stress about it, just let me know the first thing that comes to your head!

I’m always happy to offer my suggestions, but the final decision is yours.

Something urban is always fun.  This shot is in downtown Beaumont.

This shot is simply on a Football field.

Another urban shot in downtown Beaumont

During this session, my client informed me that her son loved baseball.  So I found a friend that loaned me a bucket of balls and we headed to a old overgrown baseball field.  Kale was happy and the session was smooth and fabulous!

Here is an example of a client who brought along props!  Her girls were thrilled and it showed in their photos!

This photo was simply taken at a local park.

Just remember, the location is just a place where you need to feel comfortable and can be yourself.  If you and your children are happy, it will show in your photos, no matter where you are!  The great thing about this blog is the “catagories” button up top.  You can browse some past pictures I have taken to give yourself some ideas.  If you have an idea, but can’t think of a location to go along with it, just let me know!  I love throwing ideas out there!  If you have props or pets you want to bring to your session, tell me!
